Kevin
bought his first acoustic guitar followed in quick succession by
the classic
beginners black and white STRAT copy by Squire (a god
awful piece of junk
that would never keep tune nor intonation but
sufficed for riffage). With
kit in hand Kevin set out to learn how to play
with a book of chords, a few
tab sheets and the help of friends
showing him new riffs.
By the
time G.C.S.E courses were to be chosen Kevin had written
several tracks and
recorded them at Rhythm studios in Bickmarsh for a
birthday present. He took
the recorded tracks to his school music
teacher Richard Dobell (R.I.P) for
appraisal who subsequently asked
why Kevin was not in his G.C.S.E music class.
The response was
obvious, "I can't read music! I don't know the difference
between a
quaver and a quiver!" Despite Kevin not going to any classes
Kevin sat
the G.C.S.E music exams and submitted his recordings as compositions
and was more than surprised to earn a Grade A. (Thanks for your
confidence
and support Richard Dobell (R.I.P))
During this period Kevin also played his biggest gig to date
performing his own compositions at a talent show in front of over 5000
people
on Evesham's Crown meadow. As time went by Kevin
continued to play small solo
gigs and a few with varying bands.
By 18 Kevin had pretty much put the guitar down for good, not
reprising it until several years later. But then thanks to Glass House
Wizzard, Kevin did his first solo acoustic support slot for many years.
Kevin was close
to cancelling this gig because on the morning of the
gig his granddad passed
away, But choking back the tears Kevin
proceeded with the gig in honour of
his grandfathers memory.
Subsequent support slots
followed with bands including The Irony until
Kevin was approached to audition for the role of singer in Altrum.
Much to his surprise he was to be the new singer of Altrum. After 18
months, Kevin left the band on bad
terms and over the next 18 months went from band
to band never quite feeling like it was
right. Bands included Glass House Wizzard, Thud and a few other
unnamed acts until a text from Gangle asking
him to sing in BTS, but
on the morning of that audition Gangle asked if he'd
play guitar too
and here we are now, big and proud and B.T.S!
Started
out as a singer in an unnamed school band doing
covers of grunge classics such as Smells Like Teen Spirit and Polly
by Nirvana with aspirations of one day covering Black Hole
Sun by Soundgarden. Due to the fact that there was nothing to
do except rock out through lengthy solo's Kevin decided to learn
to play the guitar with the simple desire of learning to play the
main riffs of Smells Like Teen Spirit and Spoonman.
